2024 Sugar Land Water Restriction

In response to the ongoing drought conditions, the city of Sugar Land has implemented water restrictions for 2024. These measures aim to ensure the sustainable use of our water resources and maintain a balanced supply for all residents.

Overview of Restrictions

Effective immediately, the following water usage restrictions are in place:

Outdoor Watering

  • Allowed Days: Residents with even-numbered addresses can water on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Odd-numbered addresses can water on Thursdays and Sundays.
  • Allowed Times: Watering is permitted only between 7 PM and 7 AM to reduce evaporation and ensure efficient use.
  • Prohibited Activities: Watering during the heat of the day, washing driveways or sidewalks, and using water for non-essential activities are strictly prohibited.

Car Washing

  • Car washing at home is only permitted using a handheld bucket or a hose equipped with an automatic shutoff nozzle.
  • Commercial car washes operating with water recycling systems are exempt from this restriction.

Pools and Spas

  • Refilling of swimming pools and spas is allowed only on designated watering days.
  • Use of covers to minimize evaporation is highly encouraged.

Exceptions

  • Drip irrigation systems and soaker hoses are permitted any day but must adhere to the allowed watering times.
  • Newly planted lawns and landscapes may be watered more frequently, but only with a permit obtained from the city.

Penalties

Non-compliance with these restrictions will result in fines:

  • First violation: Warning notice
  • Second violation: $100 fine
  • Subsequent violations: $500 fine

Tips for Water Conservation

  • Inspect for Leaks: Regularly check for and repair leaks in hoses, pipes, and faucets.
  • Efficient Appliances: Use water-efficient appliances and fixtures.
  • Mulching: Apply mulch to garden beds to retain moisture.
  • Native Plants: Opt for drought-resistant and native plants that require less water.

Together, we can make a significant impact on preserving our precious water resources. By adhering to these water restrictions, each resident contributes towards a sustainable future for Sugar Land.
