In response to ongoing drought conditions and to ensure a sustainable water supply for all, Porter, TX will implement water restrictions starting in 2024. Here’s everything you need to know to comply with the new regulations and help conserve our precious water resources.
Key Restrictions
Outdoor Watering
- Days Allowed:
- Odd-Numbered Addresses: Watering is allowed on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
- Even-Numbered Addresses: Watering is allowed on Wednesdays and Sundays.
- Times Allowed:
- Watering is only permitted between 6 AM – 10 AM and 6 PM – 10 PM to minimize evaporation loss.
Prohibited Activities
- No watering of lawns and landscapes between 10 AM and 6 PM.
- No washing of driveways, sidewalks, or streets unless for health and safety reasons.
- No water runoff onto streets or sidewalks from over-watering.
- No use of water for ornamental purposes such as fountains or ponds, unless it uses recycled water.
Swimming Pools
- Filling of new swimming pools is prohibited.
- Refilling of existing pools is limited to maintaining operational levels.
Car Washing
- Personal vehicle washing is only allowed on designated watering days (see above) using a hand-held bucket or a hose equipped with a positive shut-off nozzle.
Compliance and Enforcement
- First Violation: Warning and educational material on water conservation.
- Second Violation: Fine up to $100.
- Third and Subsequent Violations: Increased fines and potential installation of a flow restrictor.
