Due to ongoing drought conditions and the need to conserve our valuable water resources, the City of Kemah, TX, has implemented water restrictions for 2024. These restrictions are crucial to ensure that we have enough water to meet the needs of our community and to protect the environment.
Watering Schedule
Residential Properties
- Even-numbered addresses (e.g., 124 Main St.): Watering is permitted on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
- Odd-numbered addresses (e.g., 125 Main St.): Watering is permitted on Wednesdays and Sundays.
- Hours: Watering is allowed only between 6 AM – 10 AM and 6 PM – 10 PM.
Commercial Properties
- All commercial properties: Watering is permitted on Mondays and Fridays.
- Hours: Watering is allowed only between 6 AM – 10 AM and 6 PM – 10 PM.
Prohibited Activities
To further support water conservation efforts, the following activities are prohibited until further notice:
- Washing vehicles at home (please use commercial car washes)
- Filling or refilling swimming pools
- Using water for ornamental purposes, such as fountains
- Power washing sidewalks, driveways, or any hard surfaces
Exemptions
Certain exemptions apply to these restrictions:
- Hand-watering of plants and gardens using a hose with a shut-off nozzle is allowed any day, provided it adheres to the specified hours.
- New lawns and landscaping may receive additional watering for the first 30 days after installation.
- Drip irrigation systems are permitted as they use water efficiently.
Penalties
Failure to comply with these water restrictions can result in penalties:
- First offense: Written warning
- Second offense: $50 fine
- Subsequent offenses: Increasing fines up to $500 per violation
