2024 Water Restrictions for the City of Carrollton

Introduction

As we aim to promote sustainable water usage and ensure a reliable water supply for all residents, the City of Carrollton is implementing water restrictions effective January 1, 2024. These measures are essential to manage our water resources responsibly, especially during periods of drought or high demand.

Watering Schedule

Outdoor watering with sprinklers and irrigation systems will be restricted based on the following schedule:

  • Even-numbered addresses: Tuesdays and Saturdays
  • Odd-numbered addresses: Wednesdays and Sundays
Time Restrictions

To minimize evaporation and maximize efficiency, outdoor watering is only permitted during the following hours:

  • Morning: 12:00 AM to 10:00 AM
  • Evening: 6:00 PM to 12:00 AM

Prohibited Activities

The following activities are prohibited at all times to conserve water:

  • Washing driveways, sidewalks, and streets: Use of water for cleaning hard surfaces is not allowed. Use a broom or blower instead.
  • Watering during rainfall: Irrigation systems must be equipped with rain sensors to prevent operation during and immediately after rainfall.
  • Excessive runoff: Watering that results in water flowing onto streets or adjacent properties is prohibited.

Exceptions

Certain uses of water are exempt from these restrictions:

  • Drip and hand watering: Drip irrigation systems and hand watering with a hose equipped with a shutoff nozzle are allowed any day.
  • Newly installed landscapes: New lawns and landscapes may be watered more frequently for the first 30 days after installation.
  • Public safety: Water use for firefighting, health, and safety reasons is exempt from these restrictions.

Enforcement and Penalties

Compliance with these water restrictions is mandatory. The City of Carrollton will enforce these regulations through:

  • Warnings: First-time violators will receive a warning notice.
  • Fines: Subsequent violations may result in fines starting at $50 for residential properties and $200 for commercial properties.
  • Water restrictions: Repeat offenders may face additional restrictions or disconnection of water services.

Tips for Water Conservation

Here are some tips to help you conserve water and stay compliant with the restrictions:

  • Fix leaks: Regularly check for and repair leaks in faucets, toilets, and irrigation systems.
  • Use mulch: Apply mulch around plants to retain moisture and reduce the need for watering.
  • Install efficient fixtures: Consider installing low-flow showerheads, faucets, and toilets to reduce indoor water use.
  • Native plants: Use drought-resistant and native plants in your landscaping to reduce water needs.

By adhering to these water restrictions, we can collectively ensure a sustainable water future for the City of Carrollton. Your cooperation and commitment to water conservation are greatly appreciated.
