2024 Water Restrictions for Little Elm, TX

As we enter the warmer months, it’s crucial for residents of Little Elm, TX, to be aware of the upcoming water restrictions designed to conserve our precious resources. Here are the 2024 water restrictions in effect for the community:

Outdoor Watering Schedule

Effective Dates: May 1, 2024 – September 30, 2024

  • Odd Numbered Addresses: Watering is permitted on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
  • Even Numbered Addresses: Watering is permitted on Thursdays and Sundays.
  • No Watering: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays.

Watering Times

  • Permitted Hours: Midnight to 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM to Midnight.
  • Prohibited Hours: 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM to limit evaporation and waste.

Water Use Guidelines

  • Lawn Irrigation: Use of automatic irrigation systems should be minimized. Hand-held hoses, soaker hoses, drip irrigation, and watering cans are encouraged.
  • New Landscaping: Newly installed plants, seeds, or sod may be watered daily for up to 30 days from the date of installation.
  • Vehicle Washing: Allowed only with a hand-held bucket or a hose equipped with a shutoff nozzle.
  • Fountains and Ponds: Use of outdoor fountains and decorative water features involving a continuous flow of water is prohibited unless necessary to support aquatic life.

Exemptions

  • Commercial Nurseries: Exempt from outdoor watering restrictions but encouraged to minimize waste.
  • Public Safety: Water use for public safety activities, such as firefighting, is exempt from these restrictions.

Penalties

  • First Violation: Warning notice issued.
  • Second Violation: $50 fine.
  • Third and Subsequent Violations: $200 fine per occurrence.

Conservation Tips

  • Check for Leaks: Regularly inspect your irrigation system for leaks and repair them promptly.
  • Mulch: Apply mulch around plants to retain moisture.
  • Drought-Tolerant Plants: Consider planting drought-resistant varieties that require less water.
  • Rainwater Harvesting: Install rain barrels to collect and use rainwater for your garden.
