As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability and water conservation, Balch Springs is implementing new water restrictions for the year 2024. These measures are designed to ensure that we use our water resources efficiently and responsibly.
Effective Dates
The water restrictions will be in effect from April 1, 2024, through September 30, 2024. All residents, businesses, and organizations within the city limits are required to adhere to these guidelines.
Watering Schedule
Residential Properties
- Even-Numbered Addresses: Watering is permitted on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
- Odd-Numbered Addresses: Watering is permitted on Wednesdays and Sundays.
- Time Restrictions: Watering is only allowed between 6:00 AM – 10:00 AM and 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM.
Commercial Properties
- Watering is permitted on Mondays and Thursdays.
- Time Restrictions: Watering is only allowed between 6:00 AM – 10:00 AM and 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM.
Prohibited Activities
The following activities are prohibited during the restriction period:
- Washing vehicles at home (use commercial car washes that recycle water).
- Filling or refilling swimming pools, fountains, and ponds.
- Using water for ornamental purposes such as decorative fountains.
- Hosing down driveways, sidewalks, and streets unless for safety or sanitary reasons.
Exceptions
Exceptions to these restrictions include:
- Hand watering with a shut-off nozzle.
- Watering of newly planted landscapes, which is allowed for the first 30 days after installation.
- Drip irrigation systems are exempt but should be used responsibly to avoid water waste.
Penalties
Non-compliance with these water restrictions will result in the following penalties:
- First Violation: Written warning and educational materials.
- Second Violation: $100 fine.
- Third Violation: $200 fine and possible installation of a water flow restrictor.
- Subsequent Violations: $500 fine per occurrence.
Conservation Tips
To help conserve water, consider the following tips:
- Install low-flow showerheads and faucet aerators.
- Fix leaks promptly to prevent water waste.
- Use a broom instead of a hose to clean driveways and sidewalks.
- Collect rainwater for use in your garden.
