As part of our ongoing efforts to conserve water and ensure a sustainable supply for all residents, the Town of Flower Mound has implemented the following water restrictions for 2024. Compliance with these guidelines is essential to avoid penalties and contribute to the community’s overall water conservation goals.

Outdoor Watering Schedule

  • Even-Numbered Addresses: Watering is allowed on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
  • Odd-Numbered Addresses: Watering is allowed on Wednesdays and Sundays.
  • No Watering: Outdoor watering is prohibited on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

Watering Hours

  • Permitted Hours: 6:00 PM to 10:00 AM
  • Watering during these hours helps minimize water loss due to evaporation.

Restrictions and Guidelines

  • Hand-Held Hose, Drip Irrigation: Usage is permitted any day but only during permitted hours.
  • Sprinkler Systems: Must comply with the scheduled days and times. Ensure your system is well-maintained to prevent leaks.
  • New Plantings: Newly planted grass or landscaping may be watered daily for the first 30 days but only during the permitted hours.
  • Rain Sensors: All irrigation systems must be equipped with a working rain sensor or smart controller to prevent unnecessary watering during rain.

Prohibited Activities

  • Washing Hard Surfaces: Washing sidewalks, driveways, and other hard surfaces is not allowed unless necessary for safety or health reasons.
  • Vehicle Washing: Vehicles may only be washed using a hand-held hose with an automatic shut-off nozzle, a bucket of water, or at a commercial car wash.
  • Fountains and Decorative Water Features: Use is prohibited unless the water is recirculated.

Enforcement and Penalties

  • Warnings: First-time violations will receive a written warning.
  • Fines: Subsequent violations may result in fines starting at $50 and increasing with each additional offense.
  • Water Service: Repeated violations may lead to temporary disconnection of water service.

Exceptions

  • Commercial Nurseries and Businesses: These entities may apply for special permits to water outside the restricted hours for business necessity.
  • Public Health and Safety: Activities required for public health and safety are exempt from these restrictions.

Conservation Tips

  • Fix Leaks: Regularly check for and repair leaks in faucets, toilets, and irrigation systems.
  • Efficient Landscaping: Consider xeriscaping or using native plants that require less water.
  • Mulching: Use mulch around plants to retain moisture and reduce the need for frequent watering.
  • Watering Techniques: Water deeply but less frequently to encourage deep root growth.

We appreciate the cooperation of all residents in adhering to these water restrictions. Together, we can make a significant impact on preserving our precious water resources.
