How to Adjust A Rainbird Sprinkler Head

Adjusting a Rainbird Sprinkler head can help ensure your lawn or garden is evenly watered without wasting water on sidewalks or buildings. Whether you need to change the spray distance, the arc, or the direction of the water, here’s how you can make these adjustments with ease.

Tools You May Need:

  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Rainbird adjustment tool (depending on model)

Steps for Adjustment:

Adjusting the Spray Distance (Radius)
  1. Locate the Adjustment Screw: This screw is typically on top of the sprinkler head.
  2. Insert Your Flathead Screwdriver: Place it into the screw.
  3. Turn the Screw: Adjust the radius by turning the screw:
  4. Clockwise: Decreases spray distance.
  5. Counter-Clockwise: Increases spray distance.
  6. Note: Most Rainbird models can adjust the radius by 25%.
Adjusting the Arc (Pattern)
  1. Identify the Model: Some models have an adjustable arc, while others do not.
  2. Locate the Arc Adjustment Slot: This slot is also on top of the sprinkler head for models that offer this feature.
  3. Insert the Rainbird Adjustment Tool or a Flathead Screwdriver (depending on the model) into the arc adjustment slot.
  4. Adjust the Arc:
  5. Clockwise: Increases the span of the arc.
  6. Counter-Clockwise: Decreases the span of the arc.
  7. Note: The arc can be adjusted from 40 degrees to 360 degrees, depending on the type of Rainbird Sprinkler Head.
Adjusting the Direction of the Spray
  1. Turn the Sprinkler Body: Manually twist the stem or body (not just the head) to align with the desired area.
  2. Firmly Hold the Sprinkler Body: Once it’s pointed in the right direction, make sure it’s securely placed. It may require you to dig around the sprinkler to allow for proper adjustment without damaging the unit.
Special Considerations
  • Always adjust while the water is off to prevent injury and to see adjustments.
  • Some Rainbird sprinkler heads have a fixed pattern and may not have adjustable arcs.
  • Always check the user manual for your specific model for detailed instructions as steps might slightly vary.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues like a sprinkler head not rotating or water not reaching the expected distance, check for dirt or debris that may have clogged the nozzle or adjustment points. Also, ensure the water pressure is adequate for your particular sprinkler model.

By following these simple steps, you can customize your Rainbird sprinkler output to accurately meet the irrigation needs of your landscape while conserving water.

Remember, regular maintenance and adjustments will help prolong the life of your sprinkler system and promote a healthier, greener lawn.
