2024 Water Restrictions for Glenn Heights, TX

Overview

Due to ongoing drought conditions and the need to conserve our water resources, the City of Glenn Heights is implementing the following water restrictions effective January 1, 2024. These measures are critical to ensure a sustainable water supply for our community. Your cooperation is highly appreciated.

Residential Water Use Restrictions

  1. Outdoor Watering:
  2. Allowed: Twice a week on designated days.
  3. Designated Days:
    • Even-numbered addresses: Wednesdays and Saturdays.
    • Odd-numbered addresses: Thursdays and Sundays.
  4. Time: Watering is permitted only between 6:00 AM – 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM.
  5. Methods: Hand-held hoses, drip irrigation, soaker hoses, and automated systems are allowed. Ensure no water runoff into streets or storm drains.
  6. New Landscaping:
    • Newly installed lawns and landscaping can be watered daily for the first 30 days, but only during the specified watering times.
    • After 30 days, follow the regular outdoor watering schedule.
  7. Vehicle Washing:
    • Allowed only with a hand-held bucket or a shut-off nozzle on the hose.
    • Commercial car washes are exempt from these restrictions.
  8. Swimming Pools:
    • Filling new pools is prohibited.
    • Refilling existing pools is allowed but limited to maintain operational levels only.

Commercial Water Use Restrictions

  1. Landscape Irrigation:
    • Follow the same twice-a-week schedule as residential properties.
    • Encourage the use of drought-tolerant and native plants to reduce water usage.
  2. Restaurants & Hotels:
    • Restaurants should serve water only upon request.
    • Hotels are encouraged to offer guests the option to reuse towels and linens to minimize laundry operations.
  3. Industrial Use:
    • Businesses must reduce water use by 10% compared to their 2023 consumption levels.
    • Submit water conservation plans to the city for review and approval.

Public Facilities & Parks

  1. Park Irrigation:
    • Follow the residential watering schedule.
    • Use reclaimed water where possible.
  2. Public Fountains:
    • All non-recirculating fountains must be turned off.
    • Recirculating fountains may operate as normal.

Enforcement

    • The City of Glenn Heights will conduct regular monitoring and issue warnings for first-time violations.
    • Subsequent violations may result in fines up to $500 per occurrence.
    • Report any observed violations to the city’s water conservation hotline at 972-274-5110.

Exemptions

    • These restrictions do not apply to the use of water necessary for public health and safety, such as firefighting or medical purposes.
