Cleaning Clogged Sprinkler Nozzles Guide in Alvin

Are dry patches showing up in your yard? Our local hard water and blowing seasonal debris can easily clog up your sprinkler nozzles, leaving your grass thirsty. You can fix this problem in just a few minutes. Here is a simple guide to get your irrigation system running perfectly again.

Tools You’ll Need

  • A small flathead screwdriver
  • An old toothbrush or soft-bristle brush
  • A small cup of white vinegar
  • A bucket or cup of clean water

How to Clean Your Sprinkler Nozzles

  1. Turn off the water: Make sure your irrigation system is completely turned off at the main controller so you avoid a surprise shower.
  2. Remove the nozzle: Carefully unscrew the nozzle top from the sprinkler head. You might need to use your flathead screwdriver to gently pry up the pop-up stem first. Pull out the small plastic filter underneath it, too.
  3. Scrub away debris: Take your soft brush and gently scrub the nozzle and the filter basket. This easily removes trapped dirt, sand, and grass clippings.
  4. Soak in vinegar: Alvin water can leave behind stubborn mineral deposits. Drop the nozzle and filter into your cup of vinegar for 15 to 30 minutes to dissolve the hard water buildup. Give it a quick rinse in your clean water afterward.
  5. Flush the head: Before you put everything back together, turn your water on for just a few seconds. This blasts out any remaining dirt trapped inside the main underground pipe.
  6. Reassemble: Screw the clean filter and nozzle back onto the sprinkler head. Turn the system back on to make sure you have a smooth, even spray pattern.

Regular maintenance prevents wasted water and keeps your grass healthy all season long. Take a quick walk around your yard this weekend to check your sprinkler heads, and give your lawn the care it deserves!
