In light of ongoing drought conditions and to ensure a sustainable water supply for all, the City of Greatwood has implemented water restrictions effective immediately. Please review the following guidelines carefully:
Watering Schedule
- Odd-Numbered Addresses (e.g., 101, 103):
- Watering Days: Mondays and Thursdays
- Watering Times: Midnight to 10 AM and 8 PM to Midnight
- Even-Numbered Addresses (e.g., 102, 104):
- Watering Days: Tuesdays and Fridays
- Watering Times: Midnight to 10 AM and 8 PM to Midnight
Note: No watering is allowed between 10 AM and 8 PM to minimize evaporation and ensure efficient use of water.
Prohibited Activities
- Lawn Irrigation:
- No lawn watering on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
- Vehicle Washing:
- Prohibited except at commercial car washes that use recycled water.
- Filling Swimming Pools:
- Prohibited; topping off existing pools is allowed.
- Ornamental Fountains:
- Must be turned off unless they use recycled water.
Permitted Activities
- Hand Watering:
- Allowed on any day using a hand-held hose or watering can with an automatic shut-off nozzle.
- Drip Irrigation Systems:
- Permitted on any day as these systems are more water-efficient.
- New Landscaping:
- Newly installed landscapes may be watered with a hand-held hose or drip irrigation system for up to 30 days from the date of installation.
Conservation Tips
- Check for Leaks:
- Regularly inspect your plumbing for leaks and repair them promptly.
- Use Mulch:
- Apply mulch around plants to retain moisture and reduce evaporation.
- Install Water-Saving Devices:
- Consider low-flow showerheads and faucet aerators.
- Shorten Showers:
- Aim to keep showers under five minutes.
- Collect Rainwater:
- Use rain barrels to collect water for irrigation.
Enforcement and Penalties
The City of Greatwood will monitor compliance with these water restrictions. Violations can result in warnings, fines, and other penalties.
