To ensure the sustainable use of our water resources, the City of DeSoto has implemented the following water restrictions for 2024. These measures are essential to help conserve water during periods of high demand and limited supply.
Outdoor Watering Schedule
Residential Properties
- Even-numbered addresses: Watering is allowed on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
- Odd-numbered addresses: Watering is allowed on Thursdays and Sundays.
- Time Restrictions: Watering is permitted only before 10 a.m. and after 6 p.m. on your designated days.
Commercial Properties
- Watering is allowed on Tuesdays and Fridays.
- Time Restrictions: Watering is permitted only before 10 a.m. and after 6 p.m. on designated days.
Prohibited Activities
- No watering of lawns and landscapes between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., regardless of the day.
- No watering of hard surfaces such as sidewalks, driveways, and streets.
- No washing of vehicles at home unless using a hose with a shut-off nozzle.
- No operation of ornamental fountains or ponds that do not recirculate water.
Exceptions
- Drip irrigation systems and hand-held watering are allowed at any time but should be used efficiently to avoid waste.
- Newly planted lawns and landscapes may be watered outside of the restricted hours for the first 30 days after installation, with a special permit from the City.
- Public parks and athletic fields have specific schedules and may operate outside these restrictions to maintain safe and playable conditions.
Penalties
Violations of these water restrictions will result in the following penalties:
- First violation: Written warning.
- Second violation: $50 fine.
- Third violation: $100 fine.
- Subsequent violations: $200 fine per violation.

- Check for leaks: Regularly inspect your irrigation system and fixtures for leaks and repair them promptly.
- Use mulch: Apply mulch around plants to reduce evaporation and keep soil moisture.
- Efficient irrigation: Ensure sprinklers are adjusted to avoid watering sidewalks and driveways.
- Water-wise landscaping: Consider drought-tolerant plants to reduce the need for frequent watering.
