2024 Water Restrictions for Coppell, TX

As part of our collective effort to conserve water and ensure its sustainability for all residents, the City of Coppell has implemented the following water restrictions for 2024. These measures are designed to address the ongoing drought conditions and promote responsible water usage across the community.

Outdoor Watering Schedule

Effective Dates: April 1, 2024 – October 31, 2024

To reduce water waste, outdoor watering is limited to twice per week based on the last digit of your street address:

  • Even-Numbered Addresses (0, 2, 4, 6, 8):
  • Watering Days: Wednesdays and Saturdays
  • Watering Times: Midnight to 10 AM and 6 PM to Midnight
  • Odd-Numbered Addresses (1, 3, 5, 7, 9):
  • Watering Days: Thursdays and Sundays
  • Watering Times: Midnight to 10 AM and 6 PM to Midnight

Prohibited Watering Practices

To further conserve water, the following practices are strictly prohibited:

  • Watering During Rainfall: Watering is not allowed during rain events or within 24 hours after measurable rainfall.
  • Watering on Mondays: No outdoor watering is allowed on Mondays to allow the water system to replenish.
  • Vehicle Washing: Washing vehicles at home is only permitted using a bucket or a hose equipped with an automatic shutoff nozzle.
  • Hosing Down Driveways and Sidewalks: Washing down hard surfaces such as driveways, sidewalks, and streets with a hose is not allowed except for health and safety reasons.
  • Irrigation System Leaks: All irrigation systems must be maintained to prevent leaks, breaks, or malfunctions that cause water waste.

Exceptions to Restrictions

Certain water uses are exempt from these restrictions:

  • Hand Watering: Hand watering with a hose equipped with an automatic shutoff nozzle is allowed any day at any time.
  • New Landscaping: Watering new landscape installations, grass seed, or sod is permitted daily for up to 30 days from the date of installation.
  • Public Safety and Health: Watering necessary for public safety, health, and welfare (e.g., firefighting, dust control) is allowed.
  • Commercial Nurseries: Nurseries and commercial growers may water plants daily using a handheld hose, drip irrigation, or soaker hose.

Reporting Violations

Residents are encouraged to report any observed violations of the water restrictions to the City of Coppell Water Conservation Hotline at 972-462-5150.

Tips for Water Conservation

  • Install Efficient Irrigation Systems: Consider installing drip irrigation or high-efficiency sprinkler systems.
  • Use Mulch: Apply mulch around plants to retain moisture in the soil.
  • Fix Leaks Promptly: Check for and repair any leaks in your home’s plumbing system.
  • Water Wisely: Water plants early in the morning or late in the evening to minimize evaporation.

By adhering to these water restrictions and adopting water-saving habits, we can help ensure a sustainable water supply for everyone in Coppell. Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to conserving our precious water resources.
