Attention Residents, Local Businesses, and Municipal Authorities
Due to the ongoing drought and in efforts to conserve our water resources, the city of Hitchcock, TX, is implementing the following water restrictions effective January 1, 2024. Please adhere to these guidelines to ensure we all do our part in preserving our essential water supplies.
Watering and Irrigation
Allowed:
- Hand Watering with a hose equipped with a shutoff nozzle or using a water can is permitted at any time.
- Drip Irrigation systems are allowed but must operate between 7 PM and 10 AM only.
- Automatic Sprinkler Systems can be used twice a week on assigned days, based on street addresses:
- Odd-numbered addresses: Wednesdays and Saturdays
- Even-numbered addresses: Thursdays and Sundays
Prohibited:
- Using water for lawns and gardens between 10 AM and 7 PM.
- Sprinklers that allow water to run onto sidewalks, streets, or other paved surfaces.
Car Washing
Allowed:
- Washing vehicles at commercial car washes that use recycled water.
- Home car washing is permitted using a hose with a shutoff nozzle or a bucket, but only on weekends.
Prohibited:
- Using water to wash driveways, sidewalks, or other hard surfaces unless it’s for health and safety reasons.
Swimming Pools and Fountains
Allowed:
- Top-up swimming pools to maintain safe operational levels.
- Use of fountains and water features that recycle water.
Prohibited:
- Filling new swimming pools or refilling drained pools.
Restaurants and Businesses
Restaurants:
- Serve water to customers only upon request.
Businesses:
- Reduce water usage in daily operations by 20%.
Enforcement and Penalties
City officials will enforce these restrictions, and failure to comply may result in fines. We encourage everyone to report violations to municipal authorities to ensure community-wide adherence.
Tips for Water Conservation
- Fix leaks promptly.
- Install low-flow showerheads and toilets.
- Use a broom instead of water to clean driveways and sidewalks.
