Service Details

Primary Issue: Freeze-damaged Pressure Vacuum Breaker (PVB)

Initial Assessment: Upon arrival, inspected the PVB assembly which showed clear signs of freeze damage. The recent sub-freezing temperatures caused the internal components to crack. The brass body has a visible split, and both test cocks are damaged. The assembly is currently leaking and needs immediate replacement to restore proper backflow prevention and system functionality.

Recommended Action: Complete replacement of the PVB assembly required, including new test cocks and shut-off valves. Will also inspect downstream components for additional freeze damage and verify system integrity before full pressurization.

Safety Note: Current backflow prevention compromised - water system has been isolated until repairs can be completed.

Additional Recommendations:

  • Install insulated cover for future freeze protection
  • Consider adding heat tape for extreme weather events
  • Schedule annual backflow testing and maintenance
